The Benefits of Good Foot Care

17/07/2023

Sometimes our feet are the last thing we look after, we wash our face, hands and body as our feet can be hard to reach.

The Podiatrists at Alderley Edge Foot Clinic specialise from the hip down. They can assess your walking and gait pattern, advise on footwear for those who have swollen feet and ankles and try and prevent any falls.

Having poor mobility either due to Arthritis or any other underlying health issues can cause pain and discomfort in the feet. Just having your toenails cut professionally can enable you to get your shoes on properly without the pressure in the shoe or slipper. Or getting that painful toe looked at will allow you to walk more steadily.

They recommend that you check your feet and legs regularly because as we get older our skin cells don’t repair as well as it did. To avoid your skin getting too dry or cracked, you can apply a moisturiser daily which can reduce any infection. Knowing what to look for and know when to get advice can really help prevent further complications.

Treatments include:

Podiatry Treatments: assess nails for damage, thickening, fungal or ingrowing. Looking and diagnosing skin conditions such as fungal or psoriatic conditions. Alleviating corns, dry cracked skin, and heels.

Diabetic check: vascular and neurological tests, updates can be sent to your GP.

Nail surgery: for ingrowing toenails, that repeatedly get infected.

Verruca treatments: chemical treatments like cryotherapy are available, monochloroacetic acid or falknors needling for those long-standing verrucae.

Biomechanical Assessment: looking and assessing the alignment of the feet, ankles, knee and hips. Assessment of walking to find  out what is causing the pain/discomfort, from heel pain, metatarsalgia, ankle sprains and trauma. They can prescribe bespoke orthotics insoles for those everyday shoes.

Shockwave therapy and Foot Mobilisation Therapy: help resolve plantar fasciitis or achillies problems.

Reflexology: this holistic treatment can help with stress, anxiety, sleeplessness, or pain in your joints.
